Moving to Australia: A New Chapter

A Dream Turned Reality

Sitting here right now, writing this blog post feels completely surreal—I am in Australia. When I was younger, I remember writing school projects about the Great Barrier Reef, imagining what it might be like to see it one day. And now? I’ve packed up my life and moved across the world to the land down under. The decision wasn’t easy by any means, but the reasons behind it made the leap worth taking.

Closing My Florida Chapter

Living in Florida for the past four years was truly a dream come true. I woke up every day with the warmth of the sun on my face, just minutes from the ocean. I had the chance to scuba dive, water-ski, and explore the coastlines year-round. Younger Jenna would be so proud of how much adventure I packed into that time.

Florida gave me everything I needed for that season of life, and I’ll always cherish it. I also get to watch my other half, Lexi, continue living out our Florida dream while I start a brand-new one here in Australia.

Why Australia?

One of the biggest reasons I chose Australia was visa accessibility. For those who may not know, my boyfriend and I have been in a long-distance relationship for a little over two years, and this December (2025) we’ll celebrate two years officially together.

After graduating university, we both knew we wanted something more—a new environment, new opportunities, and the chance to finally share our daily lives. I loved the family I was working for in Florida, but deep down I knew there was more out there for me. Florida’s environment no longer felt like the right fit, and Australia offered the perfect opportunity for us to live together, grow, and hopefully build our careers.

Taking the Leap

Leaving wasn’t easy. I gave the family I worked for a six-week notice, and saying goodbye was heartbreaking. But in a way, it was a beautiful reminder of how special that chapter was.

My boyfriend and I have always been pretty open-minded, so we let life guide us. That’s how we found Trusted House Sitters, which led us to our very first opportunity in a small suburb outside Sydney. For the next seven weeks, we’re taking care of someone’s pets, using their car, and getting settled. It’s giving us the chance to set up essentials—banking, taxes, phone plans—while we apply for jobs and ease into this transition.

Looking Ahead

I have a strong feeling this won’t be the last big move of my life, but I also sense that Australia might hold us longer than we expect. For now, I’m embracing every moment—excited, nervous, and grateful all at once.

Here’s to new dreams, fresh starts, and being brave enough to take the leap—no matter how big it may be.
